TRUISMS

Dr. Crowley was my teacher at Massillon Baptist College. During the three years of classes I took under him, this list of truisms was developed by Dr. Crowley. Thank you, Dr. Crowley.

1.    What you believe about anything affects what you believe about everything and will dictate your  actions.
2.    Context is King
Principle is Queen
The Queen cannot rule until she kills the King

3. No principle can be rightly applied until context is understood.
4. The farther away from original truth you get, the less truth you have.

5. It is not so much that believers do not believe the truth, as it is the careless mishandling of the truth that opens the door to error.
6. Any subject approached with a preconception leads to a preconceived conclusion.
7. The more a believer matures, the more he sees the Word of God as a whole.
8. When you forget your past, you are doomed to repeat it.
When you do not learn from your past, you learn nothing.

9. Until you understand what you were outside of Christ, you will never understand who you are in Christ.
10. Immaturity will always gravitate to sensationalism.
Maturity will always gravitate to truth.

11. You will never have a spiritually well-fed church by feeding them fast food.
12. Things that are different are not the same.

13. If you are thinking “body, soul, spirit,” you will view temptation as an opportunity to sin. If you are thinking “spirit, soul, body,” you will view temptation as an opportunity to do the right thing and you will.
14. God NEVER moves a loser to another position. He only moves someone who is successful.
15. There is nothing wrong with lifting up holy hands if it is Spirit motivated and not fleshly cultivated.
15. Don’t resurrect in doubt what you have buried in faith.
16. Never counsel unless you can counsel from a broken heart.
17. It’s a wise man that knows his own limitations in any area and seeks help in those areas.
18. Deal with what the Bible says, not with what it does not say.
19. Every time temptation is given, it is an opportunity to do what is right.
20. Most apologies are done to deflect accountability.
21. You are never as good as your best supporter says, nor are you ever as bad as your worst critic says.
22. The practice of doing right will keep you from doing wrong, but the practice of not doing wrong will not make you right.
23. Man says, “Show me and I will do.” God says, “Do and I will show you.”
24. Never use an Old Testament type or symbol unverified in the New Testament.
25. Anytime I use capital “I” in my relationship with God, it is based on the emphasis of self.
27.    How you feel about how you were saved is the same way you feel about your Christian service.
28. I must first love myself to be myself.
29. If you teach about truth, error becomes known. If you teach about error, truth does not automatically become known.
30. What is improper that is accepted with limitations by Dad will be acceptable by Son without  limitations.
31. You either are or fast becoming or soon will be just like your friends.
32. To sacrifice truth with love is to sacrifice your Saviour with a kiss.
33. Character is not what authority makes you do, character is what you choose to do.
