By Doug Powers

Let me get this straight – so far, President Obama expects us to believe …

… that he’s a devout Christian who went to a Christian church for 20 years and never heard about anything his reverend was saying.

… that he announced his first political campaign in the home William Ayers but didn’t know anything at all about Ayers’ terrorist past.

… that he’s highly attentive and detail oriented.

… that forcing our way of life on people from other countries is wrong, but the first thing that should be done with captured “man caused disaster” suspects should be to shove U.S. constitutional dogma down their throats via reading them Miranda rights.

… that he recited his wedding vows without a teleprompter.

… that some of the greatest advances in the history of civilization have come from areas of the world where they still stone women to death for the crime of being raped, have a high infant mortality and poverty rates, don’t allow women to have any rights, wipe with their bare hands and hang homosexual people.

… that one of his prime duties as president is to defend Islam against negative stereotypes wherever they appear – especially from greedy, oppressive, racist, capitalist pig, white conservatives.

… that what makes America great is that anybody, regardless of race or economic background, can rise to a position to dismantle what makes America great.

… that a White House aide (Louis Caldera, code name “Fall Guy”) can approve a 747′s photo-op over New York City.

… that the best defense is a good offensive against your defense.

… that it shouldn’t seem strange in the least that Gitmo should be closed because it harms the U.S. image in the eyes of other countries, but the detainees shouldn’t be sent back to some of those same countries because they’ll be tortured and killed by those whose approval we so desperately seek.

… that a man with a stated goal of wiping Israel from the map should be allowed to pursue a nuclear program because he only wants to heat up his Lean Cuisine.

… that “yes we can!” is a viable foreign policy, and “no you can’t!” is an inspirational domestic policy.

… that the best equipped people to run the auto industry are those who have no experience in the auto industry.

… that the best equipped people to run the banking industry are those who have plenty of experience in losing money.

… that a good way to raise troop morale is to tell them they’re risking their lives based on a lie.

… that the only way to repair an economy ravaged by excessive government spending is through excessive government spending.

… that it’s a good idea that a minor not be allowed to get a credit card without parental approval but for that same kid to be allowed to get an abortion without parental notification.

… that make-work jobs created on borrowed and stolen money can stimulate an economy.

… that a rising unemployment rate means that the government needs to speed up its hiring process.

… that allowing the same entity that has sickened everything it’s touched in the last few months control the entire health care system will make Americans healthier.

… that being equally ill is preferable to be unequally healthy.

… that a president with a homeless, poverty-stricken brother and an aunt living in the country illegally telling Americans that he’ll treat them like family should be received as good news.

… that “socialism” cannot be socialism if we all agree that it isn’t – collectively.

And if Obama believed that lots of people would believe all this, I believe he was, unfortunately, correct.

Nahum 1:3 The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.

When I was a kid, we had a 3 or 4 foot tall swimming pool. We enjoyed making whirlpools, swirling the water around in a circle and being carried by the water. To clean the pool, we would make a whirlpool and the dirt, leaves, bugs, and sediment would be gathered up by the swirling water to the center of the pool. Then the dirt could be scooped out.

But if the dirt, leaves, bugs, and sediment was not scooped out, it would settle back to the bottom. It was not visible anymore, but the garbage was still there.

When there are problems and it seems like there is a whirlwind all around the circumstances, if the garbage is not scooped out, then it will settle back down. It will disappear for a time, but it is still there. Another whirlwind will come up and you will be amazed at how much dirt is found.

It is a sad day when a military leader forgets the value of life. It is a sad day when a leader chooses to ignore the consequences of his decisions. It is a sad day when a leader places his wants and desires ahead of the lives of those he leads. David’s desire was to have Bathsheba. The problem for David was that she was not his to have, but that did not stop him. There was a price to be paid for his desire, but sadly, he was willing to make others pay for his desire. Uriah’s life was the cost of David’s desire. The other men that went to battle with Uriah were part of the cost of David’s desire. Those men may have had wives and children and now they were part of the cost of David’s desire because they were now without a husband and father. Sin never affects just one person – to the sinner, because of their pride, they do not consider the consequences of their sin. Pride is placing your wants ahead of others’ needs. There are always consequences for sin.

Pro 16:5 Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.

Let’s break this verse into its two parts: Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD – Matthew Henry wrote:

The pride of sinners sets God against them. He that, being high in estate is proud in heart, whose spirit is elevated with his condition, so that he becomes insolent in his conduct towards God and man, let him know that though he admires himself, and others caress him, yet he is an abomination to the Lord. The great God despises him; the holy God detest him.

An abomination is something that is detestable or hateful before the All Holy Lord God – a proud heart is something that God hates because a man or woman with a proud heart places themselves ahead of God. Pride quickly becomes idolatry, because anything that is placed ahead of God is idolatry.

The second phrase: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.

Matthew Henry wrote: The power of sinners cannot secure them against God, though they strengthen themselves with body hands. Though they may strengthen one another with their confederacies and combinations, joining forces against God, they shall not escape his righteous judgment.

Pro 11:21 Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.

A prideful heart declares that “I am number one, what I want and desire takes precedence over anyone.” A little boy and a little girl were riding a mechanical horse in a shopping mall. The little boy, who was riding in front, turned to the little girl and said, “If one of us would get off, there would be more room for me.” Pride never goes unpunished, but the punishment may not come immediately and it may not come in the way we expect. As Abraham said in Genesis 18:25 Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?
