Who Are You Yielding To?

cloud2 Corinthians 10:5:Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God,and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ, anything that is not OF God is against God. Every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God anything that is placed ahead of God is an idol and is against the knowledge of God. Anything that is looked to without God in mind,is against Him. So what is the Christian to do? The Christian life is one of continuous yielding. Paul tells us what to do,the question is:will we yield to his teaching? And bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ,we are to bring our every thought into obedience under Jesus Christ’s care. Does that mean we should become mindless robots? Of course not, otherwise,God would have created us that way. However,we are to yield our thought life to Him and look solely to Him. Our thoughts are our own,but they should focus around Jesus Christ and remember, every thought is open to Him in Heaven. Hebrews 4:12-13 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.  (13)  Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight:but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

2 Corinthians 10:5 and 6: Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God,and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;  (6)  And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled. Remember,at the beginning of this passage, there were some in the Corinthian church that viewed Paul as timid and weak. They looked at his physical body (which was short and he was not handsome) and decided that Paul was all talk and no action. Paul tells them not to confuse meekness with weakness and they need to get their thought lifes in order before they can get flesh under control. Look at verse six:And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled. Paul is telling the Corinthians that he is ready to come and strongly chastise their disobedience toward God. John Gill wrote about this verse. “Until they were thoroughly reformed from the several abuses, both in doctrine and practice, they had fallen into, and were brought into a better order and decorum, and appeared to have been in all things obedient to the directions he had given;being unwilling,as yet,to use the awful authority he had from Christ, lest any of the dear children of God,who were capable of being restored by gentler methods, should suffer with the refractory and incorrigible.” In 1 Corinthians 4:21,while rebuking them,Paul wrote:What will ye? shall I come unto you with a rod,or in love, and in the spirit of meekness? Actually,if Paul came unto the Corinthians with the rod,it would have been used in love as well. And the verse does not mean that Paul would have literally arrived with a rod,but that he would deal with the Corinthians’ disobedience to God harshly but lovingly.

The Christian life is one of continuous yielding, but who are you yielding your life to? As someone has said,“There are two dogs within us;one is white and one is black, and they both try to bark through the same mouth, and the result is confusion.”Our blessing of God is consequently not clear-cut and it offends those who hear it rather than attracting them to the God whom we seem to bless. Are we living one way in public and a different way in private? Who or what are we yielding our lives to?
